COMPARE AND CONTRAST – WHAT TECHNOLOGY IS THE BEST MATCH?
Multiple factors support the growth of different renewable energy technologies in different countries and regions.  This session will try to make sense of the diversity and variety of renewable energy in the Latin American and Caribbean region, and to draw some patterns as to which technologies are advancing fastest in which parts of the region.

  • Which technologies are working best in which countries?
  • Currently, biomass and waste produce the most renewable energy, followed by small hydro power, wind power, geothermal technologies, and solar technologies.  But will the situation change?
  • Brazil is the leader in renewable energy in the region.  But how are different technologies evolving in Brazil?
  • What about Mexico?  How much renewable energy will it use and which technologies will it favor?  What about Chile and the Central American countries?
  • How is Chile's push toward non-conventional renewable energy faring?
  • Which technologies are doing best in which Caribbean countries and how are these patterns likely to evolve?
